A Worthy Addition: The New Puffco Plus

Puffco has done it again and all so soon after the release of their special edition Proxy Bloom and limited Desert colorway of the Peak Pro. What is it you may ask? It is the New Plus, their flagship portable dab pen vaporizer, revamped and improved. The original Plus was manufactured in 2016 and while it has been nearly a decade, if something isn’t broke, then don’t fix it, right? Wrong. Let’s ascertain what Puffco kept and what they discarded in the development of the New Plus.

Let’s start at the bottom because it can really only go up from there. The 510 thread battery has remained largely the same as the original’s and still features low, medium, and high heat settings and contains the same “double click” technology to initiate the convenient 12 second heat cycle. Next up is the chamber, where all the hot stuff happens, and where more of that prominent Puffco innovation also heats up. The updated Plus offers an integrated silicone grip to protect fingers from the heat of the chamber, creating a slimmer profile and making the unit more pocket-friendly whereas the original was bare, requiring a separate purchase of grips and making the unit bulkier. Onwards and upwards to the final component: the mouthpiece. The ‘puff’ part of the piece, if you will, now boasts an upgraded dart – glazed and reshaped to improve airflow and wax vaporization, leaving less of those precious dabs behind. Together, this tantalizing trifecta forms the New Plus, now available in not one, but two different colors – Onyx and Pearl.

While the changes don’t seem like much, the original already left little to be desired, so the fact that Puffco was able to enhance an already solid product lends itself to the Puffco mentality of reaching for excellence. So, considering that the OG already contained a coil-less, pressure-sealed ceramic bowl, a built-in loading tool and carb cap and a fingerprint resistant coating to the precision machined alloy housing, it would have been very easy to retain the base model for many more years. With the mission statement and tagline that appears on the packaging of all their devices of ‘you get out what you put in’, though, that would have meant that they would have put in nothing and therefore would have received nothing and that is likely not what they want for their customers.
